artist statement
Many who grew up in Singapore and Malaysia in the 1980s can recall a product from Malaysian food manufacturer Kinos – a surprise box called Tora which contains a sachet of chocolate biscuit balls and a toy.

The formation of Malaysia in 1963 saw modifications to the existing Malayan flag design to reflect and honor the newly included states of Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore. Three additional stripes were added and the 11 point star was replaced with a 14 point one. This flag remains in current use even after Singapore's expulsion from the federation in 1965.

The pairing of the Malaysian flag inspired structure with a sculptural object constructed from a disassembled Tora cardboard box puts forward a suggestion of confluence, of common memories between Singaporeans
and Malaysians.
