2011 Diptych | Oil paint, newspapers, encaustic | 46 x 64cm each

artist statement
2011 has been a time of political upheaval in SE Asia. The diptych of the two old adversaries, Mahathir and LKY are created in a Dutch wedding portrait format as we look to a different future. Based on old photos, I portray them in a fashion quite contrary to their image as big, strong, infallible leaders.

The newspapers, which are barely visible after being whitewashed with encaustic, mark the political climate of each country with Singapore's GE and Malaysia's Bersih 2.0.
