Valentine Willie Fine Art (VWFA) was founded in 1996 by Valentine Willie and Asian-art specialist Mee-Seen Loong as a pioneer art consulting agency. From its early base at Jalan Taman U-Thant to its defining home at No. 17A Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar, VWFA grew to become more than a commercial gallery—it was an important hub for exhibitions, critical dialogue, and artistic exchange that connected Kuala Lumpur to other cultural hubs in Southeast Asia.
From 2008, the gallery’s influence extended beyond Kuala Lumpur, with affiliated galleries opening in Singapore (VWFA Singapore), Yogyakarta (Tembi Contemporary), and Manila (Manila Contemporary), cultivating cross-border dialogue and collaboration. Over the years, the gallery was shaped by a diverse teams of curators, writers, and managers, contributing to its lasting impact on the regional art scene.
The decision to create a digital archive of the old VWFA’s website is undertaken with a clear purpose: to preserve an essential record of its exhibitions, artists and programmes. Bringing VWFA’s website back online is an effort to preserve and celebrate this legacy. It serves as a vital archive of the gallery’s exhibitions and the artists it championed, a resource for researchers, artists and enthusiasts interested in the development of Southeast Asian contemporary art.
