Tawatchai Puntusawasdi

The Beauty of Distance

27 Sept - 10 Nov 2007

The Beauty of Distance introduced Malaysian audiences to Thai sculptor Tawatchai Puntusawasdi, known for his uncanny ability to create sculptures warped and tilted at extreme angles. The works in the exhibition reimagine everyday objects—such as a school desk or a kitchen cabinet—through these skewed perspectives, playfully foregrounding Puntusawasdi’s interest in perception. In his own words, “A picture drawn by a small child may seem to be made up of the combination of visible sides, but in fact it is built from his understanding of what he sees and how he wishes to communicate it, rather than on the visible reality.” Accompanying the sculptures are selected sketches and studies that reflect the distinctive geometry through which the artist experiences the world.
