Solitaire marked performance artist Melati Suryodarmo’s first solo exhibition in Kuala Lumpur. The exhibition presented video and photographic documentation of a selection of her performances, which are internationally renowned for their duration, intensity, and physical rigor. Included were seminal works such as “Exergie—Butter Dance”, “The Ballad of Treasures”, “I Love You”, and “Alé Lino”. In Suryodarmo’s practice, the body functions as a theatrical canvas, staging the tragicomedy of contemporary experience and exaggerating its existential conundrums while seeking moments of catharsis.
