This is Noor Mahnun Mohamed (Anum)’s first solo exhibition with Valentine Willie Fine Art and the sixth solo exhibition in her career. The exhibition features paintings of various subjects that have deep personal significance for the artist but which she, drawing on her training in Braunschweig, Germany, has rendered strange and impersonal through her use of flat perspective and distortion. Autobiographical yet far from confessional or illustrative, they are intimations about her personal life and surroundings that extend beyond the physical into a space known only in painting. This solo exhibition established for a Malaysian audience the talents of a young artist recently returned from her studies overseas.
