The Rhythm of Doing was Fei’s first gallery-organised solo exhibition, following the self-organised Fei in 2003. Held in VWFA’s Project Room, the exhibition introduced Fei to the local art scene as a painter with a conceptual and idiosyncratic approach to painting. The works that were shown might have fit more comfortably within the category of “installations” rather than paintings, and a recurrent motif within the works presented in the show is the halftone dot aesthetic of vintage comic books, a form of media which Fei is inspired by.
